Simmons to coach Shantas until 2027 World Cup

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has renewed the contract with Phil Simmons. In a message on Tuesday, the board said that the former West Indies cricketer will serve as the head coach of the national team until the 2027 ODI World Cup in October-November.

Phil Simmons was appointed the head coach of the national team in October last year. He replaced Chandika Hathurusingha. However, the BCB initially contracted him until the Champions Trophy held last month.

After that tournament, the BCB announced that the contracts of head coach Phil Simmons, senior assistant coach Mohammad Salauddin and spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed will be renewed. The announcement of the contract renewal with Simmons came as part of that.

Simmons is excited to be given the responsibility for a long time, "I am excited to be given the responsibility for a long time. The talent of Bangladesh cricket cannot be denied. We believe that together we can achieve great things. I am looking forward to starting this journey.’

Simmons played 26 Tests and 143 ODIs for the West Indies. After his cricket career, he took over as head coach of Zimbabwe in 2004. He later worked with Ireland Cricket from 2007 to 2015. He has handled the West Indies and Afghanistan cricket teams. He also has experience coaching in franchise cricket.
