Al-Nassr is optimistic that Ronaldo will make a comeback for the Asian Champions League Two.
Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to secure a significant trophy since his arrival in Saudi Arabia, and Al-Nassr is hopeful that the 41-year-old Portuguese star will return to the field on Wednesday to assist the Riyadh club in their pursuit of silverware.
Al-Nassr is set to face Arkadag from Turkmenistan, with a spot in the quarterfinals of the Asian Champions League Two at stake.
Ronaldo has not participated in Al-Nassr’s last two matches in the Saudi Pro League, amid reports suggesting his dissatisfaction with the club's funding approach, especially after witnessing rival Al-Hilal acquire Karim Benzema during last month’s transfer window.
Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Ahli are all predominantly owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
In a statement, the SPL emphasized that no player surpasses the club or the league in importance.
“The Saudi Pro League is based on a straightforward principle: each club functions independently under the same regulations,” the league stated. “Cristiano has been fully committed to Al-Nassr since his arrival and has played a crucial role in the club’s development and aspirations. However, no individual — no matter how prominent — influences decisions beyond their own club.”
Despite the absence of the five-time Ballon d’Or recipient, Al-Nassr triumphed over reigning champion Al-Ittihad with a score of 2-0 on Friday.
Ittihad is the only one of the three Saudi teams in the top-tier AFC Champions League Elite that has not yet secured a position in the round of 16, with two group matches still to play.
Despite losing star forward Karim Benzema last week to Al-Hilal, which has a reputation for making high-profile acquisitions, including Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, Ittihad will progress to the next round if they defeat Al-Gharafa from Qatar on Tuesday.
