Anthony Kim following his debut with 4Aces at LIV Golf: Grateful to 'be alive'

Anthony Kim's remarkable return to the professional golf scene reached a new milestone on Thursday as he concluded his first round with the 4Aces, finishing tied for third at LIV Golf Adelaide.

Kim joined Dustin Johnson's team prior to the second event of the 2026 season, taking over Patrick Reed's position on a full-time basis. He delivered an impressive performance, shooting a 5-under 67 on Thursday, placing him in a tie for third alongside Johnson after the first round, just one stroke behind the leaders Bryson DeChambeau and Marc Leishman.

This marks a significant full circle moment for the 40-year-old Kim.

The former rising star made his comeback from a 12-year break in 2024 and has participated in the last two seasons as a wild card. However, he faced relegation after the 2025 season and had to compete in the Promotions event, where he narrowly made the cut before finishing third to reclaim his position in the league.

It was only after Reed declared his intention to return to the PGA Tour that a spot on a team became available for Kim. His acceptance was not automatic; Kim expressed that he was attracted to the 4Aces due to his admiration for Johnson and his new teammates, Thomas Pieters and LIV newcomer Thomas Detry.

"Clearly, I wouldn't have agreed to join the team if I didn't have a fondness for all three of the guys," Kim remarked following Thursday's round. "Being around individuals I appreciate will certainly enhance my experience.

"However, I cherish my time with my daughter and my wife. I do not require additional support beyond that. Yet, having some extra companions I enjoy being with will be quite beneficial."

Family has remained central to Kim's comeback. A three-time winner over six seasons on the PGA Tour during his 20s, Kim underwent Achilles tendon surgery in 2012 and has been candid about his recovery from drug and alcohol addiction during his absence from professional golf.
