France defender Dayot Upamecano has secured a new four-year contract to remain with Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga giant concluded a lengthy negotiation process on Friday by revealing that the 27-year-old Upamecano has signed a new agreement that will keep him at the club until June 2030, thereby quelling rumors of potential interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain as the season draws to a close.
He had only a few months remaining on his previous contract.
"Upamecano is a key player in our squad whom we have successfully managed to retain," stated Bayern's board member for sport, Max Eberl, on the club's official website. "A team requires foundational players, and we have secured that with Dayot. The critical aspect is not merely who you recruit but who you nurture. Dayot has developed into a premier international player during his time at Bayern."
Upamecano joined from Leipzig in 2021 after Bayern activated his release clause, which was approximately 43 million euros (equivalent to $52.2 million at the time). He had transferred to Leipzig from sister club Salzburg in 2017. Bayern executive Uli Hoeneß recently voiced his dissatisfaction regarding Upamecano's previous indecision about his future with the club, suggesting that "his representatives will do everything possible to entice him away."
He has made 180 appearances for Bayern and has represented France 35 times.
