New Zealand suffered a big loss on the third day of the Galle Test. Despite closing the gap on the fourth day, the Kiwis tasted the bitter taste of a big loss. The visitors lost to Sri Lanka by an innings and 154 runs. With this loss, the Kiwis were whitewashed 2-0 by the Lankans.


In the first innings, Dinesh Chandimal, Kamindu Mendis and Kushal Mendis lost 5 wickets and declared the innings at 602 runs. Chandimal scored 116 runs Kamindu 182 and Kushal 106 runs.

In response to the 602 runs scored by the Lankans, New Zealand were bowled out for just 88 runs. Spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya destroyed the QI batting line with 6 wickets in hand.

Sri Lanka got a lead of 514 runs. The Lankans send New Zealand to follow on. New Zealand were bowled out for 360 runs in the second innings. Glenn Phillips scored 78 runs off 99 balls for the team.

Besides, Devon Conway scored 61 from 62 balls, Tom Blundell scored 60 from 64 balls and Mitchell Santner scored 67 runs from 115 balls. For Sri Lanka, Nishan Peris took 6 wickets and Prabhat Jayasuriya took 3 wickets.
