Pakistan has agreed to the hybrid model for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but with two conditions
During discussions regarding the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) requested that the International Cricket Council (ICC) explore alternative options. However, within a span of two days, Pakistan has reportedly consented to host the tournament under the hybrid model. Although there has been no formal announcement from the PCB, multiple Pakistani media sources have indicated this development.
According to these reports, the PCB has stipulated two conditions for organizing the Champions Trophy in the hybrid format. Firstly, they seek an increase in their revenue allocation from the ICC, and secondly, they propose that all global tournaments held in India until 2031 also adopt the hybrid model.
A report from the Pakistan Observer has stated that India will conduct its matches in the United Arab Emirates, while the remainder of the tournament will take place in Pakistan. The final is set to be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore; however, should India reach the final, it will instead be hosted in the United Arab Emirates.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) currently receives 38.50% of the ICC's revenue, amounting to over 2,750 crore rupees annually, which is the highest share. In contrast, the PCB receives only 5.75%, translating to approximately 423 crore 40 thousand rupees per year.
Additionally, four major ICC events are scheduled to occur in India by 2031, including the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, the 2026 T20 World Cup, the 2029 Champions Trophy, and the 2031 ODI World Cup. The Pakistan team will not participate in these four tournaments in India, and the ICC will need to consider organizing them in a hybrid model. It remains to be seen whether the ICC will accept the PCB's conditions.
