South Africa suffered a batting disaster at home. The team, which lost 4 wickets for 54 runs, was all out for 191 runs in the first innings. That run was also thanks to Temba Bavuma.

Seeing the plight of the Proteas at Kingsmead in Durban, it was predicted that a tough test awaits Sri Lanka. And so it happened. The Sri Lankans were all out for their lowest score of just 42 runs in the first innings.

South Africa, who have their eyes on the Test Championship final, took a lead of 149 runs in the first innings. They started batting in the second innings to increase their lead.

For South Africa, who lost the toss and opted to bat, Temba Bavuma, who returned to the lead after recovering from injury, scored 70 runs in the first innings off 117 balls. Keshav Maharaj's 24 runs in the lower innings were the second highest for the team.
