T20 leagues to be held in January, 4 more tournaments along with BPL

The schedule of BPL, Big Bash, SA20 and Super Smash was announced earlier. The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) also finalized the schedule of ILT20 today. Like the other three tournaments, the schedule of ILT20 is also going to conflict with the BPL.

These five T20 tournaments will be held throughout January. So, cricketers who are contracted to franchises of multiple leagues may be confused about which one to keep and which one to play in. Australia's Big Bash League suffered from a crisis of foreign players towards the end of last season due to 'mass exodus'. Many left the Big Bash and went to play ILT20 in the United Arab Emirates. Something similar can be seen this time too.

BPL - Bangladesh - 11th  - 30 December 2024 to 7 February 2025

Big Bash League  -  Australia  - 14th - 15 December 2024 to 27 January 2025

SA20  - South Africa - 3rd  -  9 January 2025 to 8 February 2025

ILT20  - United Arab Emirates - 3rd  - 11 January 2025 to 9 February 2025

Super Smash - New Zealand - 20th - 26 December 2024 to 2 February 2025

Take the case of Lockie Ferguson. The New Zealand fast bowler will play for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash starting from December 15. When the ILT20 starts on January 11, he will go to the United Arab Emirates to play for the Desert Vipers. Two Australian cricketers, Jake Fraser-Magarc (signed by Melbourne Renegades and Dubai Capitals) and Matthew Wade (Hobart Hurricanes and Sharjah Warriors), England's Chris Jordan (Hobart Hurricanes and Gulf Giants), and West Indies' Shai Hope (Hobart Hurricanes and Dubai Capitals), will not be able to play from the beginning to the end of any tournament.

Bangladesh's Rishad Hossain will also have to go through this experience. This 22-year-old leg-spinner has got a team in the Big Bash League for the first time. If he gets a no-objection certificate from the BCB, he will be seen in the Hobart Hurricanes jersey. But Hobart will not have Rishad for long. The 11th season of the BPL will start from December 30. Rishad will have to return home soon to play for the current champion Fortune Barisal.

David Warner's case is completely different. This time Warner has decided to play the entire Big Bash season. He will also lead Sydney Thunder. Meanwhile, he has a contract with ILT20 team Dubai Capitals. Sydney Thunder's last match in the first phase of the Big Bash is on January 17. If the team reaches the final, Warner will have to stay until January 27. This means that Warner will be able to represent Dubai in the last phase of ILT20.

ILT20 CEO David White said that the tournament was planned to be held in October-November, avoiding the busy schedule of January-February. However, in the end, the decision was finalized to hold it at the same time like the previous two seasons.

Like these five T20 leagues, the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) will also be held at almost the same time next year. A few days ago, news agency PTI reported that a new 'conflict' could arise between India and Pakistan over this.

PSL is usually held in February-March, while IPL usually runs from the last week of March to the last week of May. But since the Champions Trophy is in February-March next year, the PCB will not be able to organize the 10th edition of PSL during that time. Instead, they want to organize PSL in April-May. The 18th edition of IPL will also be held at the same time.
