Afridi thrilled to be in BPL at Tamim's call

Legendary Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi, along with his son-in-law Shaheen Shah Afridi, has arrived in Dhaka to take part in the forthcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

In response to a call from Tamim Iqbal, the prominent Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will represent Fortune Barisal.

Shahid Afridi, a former captain of Pakistan who has transitioned into coaching after retiring from cricket, is joining as a goodwill ambassador for Chittagong Kings. He has previously participated in six editions of the BPL.

Shaheen Shah Afridi reached Dhaka last night and was observed practicing with his Barisal teammates today. Following his practice session at the BCB Academy ground in Mirpur, Shaheen addressed the media.

Commenting on the opportunity to compete against his father-in-law in the opposing team, Shaheen Afridi remarked, "It is quite exciting to have the chance to face Shahid Afridi. The fortunate aspect for me is that he will not be playing, so we will not encounter each other on the field (laughs). He is here as a consultant, and I hope that the young cricketers of Bangladesh can gain valuable insights from him."

On the subject of his debut in the BPL and representing the current champions Fortune Barisal, Shaheen Afridi stated, "The primary reason for my participation in the BPL was Tamim Iqbal's phone call. I was elated when Tamim bhai invited me to join this team."

Shaheen Afridi further expressed, "I have been following the BPL for many years. It is an excellent franchise tournament. There is much to learn from playing here. When I return to play for Pakistan in the future, I hope to showcase my skills effectively. I am aware that many Pakistani players participate here. This will be my first experience, and I look forward to seeing how the cricketing environment is, which will allow me to make comparisons."

In response to a query, the Pakistani fast bowler stated, "To be honest, I do not consider myself a star. There are many other talented Bangladeshi players participating. Tamim is playing, and all the national team members are here. For me, our own cricketers should be regarded as stars. I am simply a cricketer aiming to perform well for the team and contribute to securing victories."
