Atalanta's impressive run of 11 consecutive victories comes to an end; however, they remain in first place following a late equalizer against Lazio.
Atalanta's impressive winning streak of 11 matches came to an end on Saturday as they drew 1-1 with fourth-placed Lazio in Serie A. A late equalizer from substitute Marco Brescianini ensured that the Bergamo team maintained their position at the top of the Serie A standings. Brescianini scored just four minutes after entering the match, completing a counterattack initiated by Nicolo Zaniolo and Ademola Lookman. Lazio's Fisayo Dele-Bashiru opened the scoring midway through the first half, capitalizing on a ball played over the defense and striking past the advancing goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi. Atalanta remains one point ahead of the defending champions, Inter Milan, who secured a 3-0 victory against Cagliari earlier in the day and have a match in hand. The upcoming match for Atalanta will be against Inter on Thursday in the semifinals of the Italian Super Cup, which will take place in Saudi Arabia.
In the other semifinal, Juventus will face AC Milan.
Atalanta was missing their top scorer, Mateo Retegui, who sustained a left leg injury in the previous weekend's match against Empoli.
