Ruben Amorim expresses considerable enthusiasm regarding the potential trajectory of Manchester United, currently positioned in 14th place, by the year 2025.

Despite Manchester United commencing 2025 in 14th position in the Premier League, head coach Ruben Amorim expresses considerable enthusiasm for the upcoming year.

The team's recent 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle marked their fifth league loss within the same month, a first occurrence since September 1962. Additionally, the Red Devils have now suffered four consecutive defeats across all competitions, resulting in six losses out of their last eight matches.

In a New Year’s Eve message shared on the club’s official X account, Amorim stated, “I recognize that achieving our goals will require significant effort from everyone, but I am genuinely excited about our potential journey together in 2025.”

Amorim has yet to reverse the troubling decline that led to Erik ten Hag’s dismissal in October. Currently, his team sits seven points above the relegation zone, with discussions of a relegation battle becoming increasingly prevalent, including comments from Amorim himself, who has acknowledged it as “a possibility.” Nevertheless, he remains resolute in continuing with the 3-4-3 formation, despite the challenges the squad has faced in adapting to it.

“While I did not select the players specifically for these roles, I was aware of the situation,” he remarked. “I understand they are encountering numerous difficulties after spending two years playing in a different style before transitioning to this one.” Amorim noted that he did not have the advantage of a pre-season to implement such a significant tactical shift, which he admitted is having a considerable effect.

“I believe the players are losing sight of the finer details we aim to refine in training,” Amorim commented. “After conceding a goal, they seem to lose focus entirely because we lack a foundational structure; we have not had the time to establish a solid base to manage challenging moments, making the current situation quite difficult.”

United faces a daunting start to 2025, as they prepare to visit league leaders Liverpool on Sunday, a match widely regarded as one of the fiercest rivalries in English football.
