In an exhilarating match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday, Josh Inglis' unbeaten 120 propelled Australia to a historic run-chase, as the reigning champions successfully pursued a formidable target of 352 runs in just 47.3 overs, overcoming England.


Earlier, England had established a formidable total of 351-8, with opener Ben Duckett delivering a record-setting performance of 165 runs off 143 balls, marking the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history.

Duckett’s extraordinary innings featured 17 boundaries and three sixes, eclipsing the previous record of 145, jointly held by Nathan Astle of New Zealand (2004) and Andy Flower of Zimbabwe (2002).

The 30-year-old left-handed batsman not only set a new individual record but also played a crucial role in helping England achieve the highest team total in the tournament's history, surpassing New Zealand's 347-4 against the USA in 2004. Duckett received solid support from Joe Root, who added 68 runs off 78 balls in a third-wicket partnership of 158, laying the groundwork for England’s impressive score.

Australia's bowling lineup, lacking key fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, faced challenges against England’s aggressive batting. With Spencer Johnson, Ben Dwarshuis, and Nathan Ellis stepping in, Dwarshuis emerged as the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 66 runs.

Adam Zampa and Marnus Labuschagne also made contributions, each claiming two wickets. Duckett was ultimately dismissed by part-time spinner Labuschagne in the 48th over, having surpassed his previous best of 107 not out against Ireland in 2023.

England's strong start was briefly halted when opener Phil Salt (10) fell to Dwarshuis in the second over, who also dismissed Jamie Smith (15). Birthday celebrant Harry Brook, along with Jos Buttler (23) and Liam Livingstone (14), had short-lived appearances at the crease. Jofra Archer provided some late excitement with a rapid 21 runs off 10 balls, as England concluded with the highest total in the tournament's history.
