Bangladesh played brilliantly but failed to win on Indian soil. The red-green team left the field with a 0-0 draw against host India at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the Asian Cup qualifiers. Despite having several chances in the first half of the match, Bangladesh failed to score a goal.

Hamza Chowdhury made his debut in the match. However, the big surprise for the Bangladesh team was that regular captain Jamal Bhuiyan was not in the starting eleven. Tapu Barman led the way in his place. But Tapu had to leave the field due to an injury in the 22nd minute. Even then, Bangladesh played with possession of the ball, created pressure on the Indian defense, but failed to score a goal.

Bangladesh had a goal opportunity in the first minute of the match. Mojibur Rahman Johnny got the ball due to a mistake by Indian goalkeeper Vishal Keith, but he could not keep the ball at the empty post. In the 9th minute, Shahriar Emon headed Sheikh Morsalin's cross but could not put it on target.

Emon wasted another opportunity in the 21st minute. He failed to head the ball from the six-yard box from Morsalin's cross. On the other hand, captain Tapu Barman was injured when he was hit while taking this header. After being on the field for a while, Tapu could not play due to injury.

India got the first good chance in the 31st minute. Bangladesh goalkeeper Mitul Marma blocked Udon Singh's header from Liston Colacho's cross. Mitul also blocked the return shot.

Johnny got another chance in the 41st minute, but this time he failed. At the beginning of the second half, when Liston Colacho attacked, Hamza Chowdhury came from behind and made a great tackle.

Liston created another chance in the 55th minute. Johnny blocked it but could not take control of the ball, and Chhetri also failed to take a header from Liston's cross.

In the 61st minute, Vishal Keith again made a mistake and gave the ball to Johnny's feet, but this time Bangladesh could not capitalize on the forward goal opportunity.
