Germany secures a spot in the Nations League semifinals by defeating Italy, while the other quarterfinal matches extend into extra time.

Germany took an early lead with three goals in the first half against Italy, ultimately securing a 3-3 draw to advance to the Nations League semifinals on Sunday.

In a tense finish, Giacomo Raspadori converted a penalty deep into stoppage time, bringing Italy within one goal of forcing extra time in Dortmund. However, Germany managed to clinch a 5-4 aggregate victory.

The other three quarterfinal matches on Sunday—defending champions Spain facing the Netherlands, France against Croatia, and Portugal versus Denmark—were all decided in extra time.

Joshua Kimmich opened the scoring for Germany with a penalty in the 30th minute, followed by a second goal from Bayern Munich teammate Jamal Musiala just six minutes later in a rather unusual sequence. After Italy's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made a remarkable save from a header, he was seen arguing with his defense. Kimmich took advantage of the moment by executing a short corner to Musiala, who then deftly placed the ball into the net while Donnarumma was out of position. Striker Tim Kleindienst extended Germany's lead to 3-0, but Moise Kean responded with two goals for Italy in the second half, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

The semifinals are scheduled to commence on June 4, with the final taking place on June 8.

Maldini's First Start
Daniel Maldini made his debut for Italy, marking the occasion 23 years after his father, Paolo Maldini, last represented the national team. Additionally, Daniel's grandfather, Cesare Maldini, also played for Italy.
