Chennai bid farewell with rare experience on Chahal's hat-trick day

The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chiplun is the home ground of IPL team Chennai Super Kings. The ground where Mahendra Singh Dhoni knows everything like the back of his hand. This time, the team had an unfamiliar experience. Not one or two, but for the first time, they witnessed their fifth consecutive loss at home. And as a result, the team was the first team to be eliminated from the play-off race.

Dhoni's team lost by 4 wickets against Punjab Kings on Wednesday (April 30). Chennai had batted earlier in the day and had put 190 runs on the scoreboard. Punjab crossed that mark with two balls to spare.

For Chennai, no one could even reach twenty with the bat except Sam Curran (88) and Dewald Brevis (32).

In the 19th over of the innings, Punjab's experienced spinner Yuzvendra Chahal destroyed Chennai by taking four wickets in five balls, including a hat-trick.

Chasing the run chase, Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer was named man of the match for his innings of 72 runs off 41 balls.

Chennai are at the bottom with 4 points from 10 matches with two wins and eight losses. The team still has four matches left. On the other hand, Punjab has moved up to number two with 13 points from 10 matches with this win.
