KKR Keep Playoff Hopes Alive with Crucial 14-Run Win Over Delhi Capitals
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) revived their playoff hopes in IPL 2025 with a hard-fought 14-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The victory takes KKR to nine points on the table, keeping them in contention as the tournament enters its final stretch.
Batting first, KKR posted a challenging 204/9, powered by a blistering 48-run opening stand between Sunil Narine (27) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (26) in just 17 balls. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane added a steady 26, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi (44) and Rinku Singh (36) stitched a vital 61-run partnership in the middle overs. Despite losing momentum late in the innings—thanks to a dramatic final over from Mitchell Starc—Andre Russell’s late flourish ensured a competitive total.
DC’s spinners, particularly Axar Patel (2/27) and Vipraj Nigam, pulled things back after the powerplay, removing Narine, Rahane, and Venkatesh Iyer in quick succession.
Chasing 205, DC stumbled early with Abishek Porel falling for just 4 to Anukul Roy. Faf du Plessis reignited the chase with a valiant 62 off 45 balls, sharing a 76-run stand with Axar Patel (43). However, regular strikes from the KKR bowlers halted the momentum. Sunil Narine led the attack with 3 wickets, supported by Varun Chakaravarthy (2), and one each for Anukul Roy and Vaibhav Arora.
Despite brief flashes of hope, DC were restricted well short of the target, handing KKR a much-needed away win.
