Nat Sciver-Brunt Named England Women's Cricket Captain
All-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt has been appointed as the new captain of the England women’s cricket team, succeeding Heather Knight, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Tuesday.
Sciver-Brunt, 32, made her international debut in 2013 and has served as vice-captain for the past three years. A key figure in the squad, she is currently ranked third in the ICC ODI batting rankings and was a vital part of England’s 2017 ODI World Cup-winning team. She was also honored as the ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year in both 2022 and 2023.
With 259 international appearances, 11 centuries, and 181 wickets across all formats, Sciver-Brunt brings both experience and leadership to the role.
"I'm really proud to take on the role of captain of the England women's team," she said in a statement. "I will try my best to lead this team to success, whilst empowering them to be the best version of themselves."
Her predecessor, Heather Knight, stepped down last month after England endured a disappointing 16-0 Ashes whitewash against Australia. Knight captained England in 199 matches during her tenure.
Looking ahead, Sciver-Brunt expressed optimism: "We have a really talented group, and we have a group that's united. It's a team I believe in and a team that can have a lot of success together."
England will host the West Indies next month in a white-ball series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is.
