Hurricanes eliminate Capitals to reach Eastern Conference Final.

Andrei Svechnikov scored the go-ahead goal with under two minutes left as the Carolina Hurricanes edged the Washington Capitals 3–1 in Game 5, clinching their second Eastern Conference Final appearance in three seasons. Svechnikov’s eighth goal of the playoffs, assisted by Sean Walker, capped a gritty series where Carolina’s defense and timely scoring proved decisive. Jordan Staal opened the scoring, and Seth Jarvis sealed the win with an empty-netter. Frederik Andersen made 18 saves in another strong outing.

Despite a bounce-back goal from Anthony Beauvillier and key stops from Logan Thompson, Washington struggled to generate offense across the series, totaling just seven goals. Carolina now awaits the winner of the Florida–Toronto matchup, with the Panthers holding a 3–2 lead.
