Napoli's title ambitions were dented by a late Genoa equaliser, as Inter moved closer to the top spot.
Napoli's Serie A title hopes took a hit on Sunday as they were held to a 2–2 draw at home by Genoa, allowing Inter Milan to close the gap to just one point with two matches remaining in a tightly contested title race.
Despite taking the lead twice at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, Napoli failed to secure all three points in a match that highlighted both brilliance and frailty. Inter, who won 2–0 earlier in the day against Torino, now sit on 77 points—just behind Napoli’s 78—setting up a nail-biting conclusion to the season.
Napoli’s troubles began early when midfielder Stanislav Lobotka limped off with an ankle injury within minutes of kickoff. However, they responded quickly through Romelu Lukaku, who calmly slotted home in the 15th minute after a superb delivery from Scott McTominay.
Genoa came close to equalising on the half-hour mark when Andrea Pinamonti's header struck the crossbar. The visitors did find the net shortly after: a header from Honest Ahanor rebounded off the bar and post before ricocheting off Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret for an unfortunate own goal in the 32nd minute.
Giacomo Raspadori appeared to restore order in the 64th minute, blasting a close-range effort past the Genoa keeper to reignite home support. But the celebration was short-lived. A late push from Genoa culminated in a dramatic equaliser, denying Napoli a crucial victory and casting doubt on their grip atop the standings.
With just two rounds left, the title race is wide open—and Napoli's margin for error has vanished.
