For this reason, a final decision on this issue will be taken at the ICC annual conference. The ICC annual conference will be held in Singapore from July 17-20.

The deterioration of diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries has limited the cricketing relations between India and Pakistan only to ICC and ACC events. However, the war situation that has arisen between the two neighboring countries after the terrorist attack in Pahelgam on April 22 has raised doubts about the India-Pakistan cricket match in ICC events.

According to a PTI report, it is unlikely that these two teams will be seen together in the T20 World Cup next year or in a multinational tournament.

In this context, a source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told the news agency, "This issue will be discussed at the annual conference. It is unlikely that India and Pakistan will not play in the knockout stages of the ICC event. However, there is a possibility that the two teams will not be placed in the same group.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah, who previously served as BCCI Secretary, will be attending the annual conference for the first time since taking over as the head of the international cricket body in December last year.

Relations between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have been strained over the past few years due to political reasons. In 2023, the Indian board did not allow the Rohit Sharma-led team to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, forcing the PCB to host the tournament in a hybrid model. Sri Lanka hosted all of India's matches and most of the knockout matches.

The Pakistan board faced a similar situation earlier this year when it hosted the ICC Champions Trophy. All of India's matches were hosted in Dubai. Both the finals of both tournaments were held outside Pakistan, and India won both tournaments.

The 2026 T20 World Cup is still a long way off. Before that, India is set to host the 2025 Women's World Cup from September 29. It is not yet clear whether the two countries will play each other in this tournament.
