Jonathan David is rediscovering his form at Juventus as the home World Cup in Canada draws near.

Canadian star Jonathan David is regaining his form as the home World Cup approaches.

David netted his third goal in four matches, contributing to Juventus's 3-0 victory over defending champions Napoli in Serie A on Sunday.

This outcome allowed Luciano Spalletti to outmaneuver Antonio Conte, as both coaches faced their former teams.

In the first half's middle, David skillfully controlled a long pass from Manuel Locatelli and directed it into the net.

"(David) demonstrated his ability to compete in a tight space within the box, effectively taking the ball away from the opponent," Spalletti remarked. "If you exert all your strength in those critical moments, it works; otherwise, you miss the opportunity. He scored like a true striker."

Just three minutes prior, Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram struck the post, and three minutes following the goal, the Turin side had another opportunity when Francisco Conceicao’s attempt was cleared off the line by Napoli defender Alessandro Buongiorno.

Kenan Yildiz and Filip Kostic contributed additional goals for the home team, Juventus, in the second half.

Napoli fell from third to fourth place, now tied on points with Roma, who drew 1-1 against second-placed AC Milan. Juventus remains in fifth position.

Spalletti guided Napoli to the Serie A championship in 2023, while Conte led Juventus to three consecutive Italian league titles after also having played for the club.

David scored during his Serie A debut for Juventus in August but experienced a lengthy goal drought before finding his rhythm this month, with a goal and an assist against Sassuolo and another goal against Cremonese. He also provided an assist in Juventus's win over Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday.

David's season has also faced challenges due to a coaching change, with Spalletti taking over from the dismissed Igor Tudor in October.

Canada is co-hosting this year's World Cup alongside the United States and Mexico.

Canada is grouped with Qatar, Switzerland, and another team yet to be determined through European playoffs, which include four-time champions Italy.Spalletti expressed admiration for United States international Weston McKennie, who played in a more attacking role than his typical midfield position.

"McKennie is an ideal central striker," the coach remarked. "He is tenacious, possesses aerial strength, and has impressive jumping ability. He plays with the aim of achieving results as he makes decisive choices. He would be an exceptional striker."

Lukaku makes his season debut for Napoli.

The sole positive news for Napoli was the appearance of Romelu Lukaku in the second half, marking his first play since sustaining an injury during a preseason friendly.

Lukaku squandered his only opportunity after a well-executed setup from Rasmus Hojlund.

Milan held to a draw at Roma.

Milan fell five points behind Serie A leaders Inter Milan following their draw against Roma.

Koni De Winter gave Milan the lead in the second half by finishing a set piece after a corner kick, assisted by Luka Modric.

Lorenzo Pellegrini equalized for Roma with a penalty awarded for a handball by Milan defender Davide Bartesaghi.

Milan has remained unbeaten since their loss to Cremonese in the season opener back in August.

Additionally, seventh-placed Atalanta triumphed over Parma with a score of 4-0, featuring Giacomo Raspadori scoring in his first start for the Bergamo club after his transfer from Atletico Madrid.

Daniele De Rossi’s Genoa staged a comeback from two goals down to defeat 10-man Bologna 3-2, with an injury-time winner from Junior Messias; Sassuolo also secured a 1-0 victory over Cremonese.
