Arsenal relinquishes a two-goal advantage against Wolves, enhancing Manchester City's prospects for the Premier League title.

Arsenal squandered a two-goal advantage against last-placed Wolves on Wednesday, significantly aiding Manchester City in their pursuit of the Premier League title.

The league leaders were unexpectedly held to a 2-2 draw at Molineux, despite having a 2-0 lead in the second half.

Teenage debutant Tom Edozie netted a goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time, completing Wolves’ remarkable comeback.

"There was a significant contrast in our performance between the first half and the second half. We lowered our standards and were punished for it," stated Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka in an interview with the BBC.

This draw indicates that Arsenal has dropped points in consecutive matches, leaving them just five points ahead of second-placed City, although they have played one more game.

With the top two teams yet to face each other at City’s Etihad Stadium, the title race remains highly competitive.

"(It’s) time to concentrate on ourselves, elevate our standards, and enhance our performances, as it is within our control," Saka remarked.

Arsenal has been at the forefront for most of the season, and one bookmaker even paid out on Mikel Arteta’s squad winning the title after they established a nine-point lead earlier this month.

However, Wednesday’s outcome is the latest indication that they are under pressure, having finished as runners-up in the last three seasons. They have secured only two victories in their last seven league matches. After relinquishing a lead against Brentford last week, the situation was even more dire against a Wolves team that has managed just one win all season.

Victory seemed almost guaranteed after Saka scored with a header in the fifth minute, followed by Piero Hincapie’s powerful strike in the 56th minute to double the lead.

However, Wolves initiated their comeback with Hugo Bueno’s curling shot into the top corner in the 61st minute.

The 19-year-old Edozie was introduced as a substitute in the 84th minute, and his goal provided the home team with only their 10th point in a campaign that appears destined for relegation. While this result did little to enhance Wolves’ survival hopes, it could have significant implications for the title race at the top of the table.
"I am extremely disheartened that we relinquished two points," Arteta remarked. "We must take responsibility for our performance and acknowledge the efforts of Wolves. However, our performance in the second half fell significantly short of the standards required to secure a victory in the Premier League.

"Failure to perform can lead to consequences, and we faced those consequences; we must accept the setbacks, as such situations can arise when we are in a dominant position."

Arsenal is set to face Tottenham on Sunday. Its lead may be reduced to two points prior to the match if City secures a win against Newcastle on Saturday.
